A Weekend of Skyline Views, Nordic Spa, and Drive-In Magic

A Weekend of Skyline Views, Nordic Spa, and Drive-In Magic

If you’re looking for an unforgettable weekend trip filled with stunning views, cozy towns, and unique experiences, enjoy a long weekend adventure through Bainbridge Island and Whidbey Island.

We took a mid-December trip with our Revel Sprinter van and it left us feeling refreshed - already dreaming of our next trip back.

Seattle to Bainbridge Island

Ferry Ride to Bainbridge: Watch the Skyline Drift Away

Start your adventure with one of Seattle’s most iconic experiences—a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island. As the ferry departs, grab a hot coffee from the onboard café, head to the deck, and watch the Seattle skyline fade behind you.

During the holidays, the city sparkles even brighter with buildings and trees decked in festive lights. The crisp winter air and sweeping views of Puget Sound create the perfect kickoff to your weekend escape.

The 35-minute ride feels like a transition to a slower, calmer world. Once you arrive on Bainbridge, the island’s laid-back charm immediately welcomes you.

Stay at Ravenwood: A Quiet Island Retreat

Your first stop is Ravenwood, a peaceful campsite in the charming Rollingbay neighborhood.

Tucked next to a friendly host’s home, this private spot gives you easy access to local amenities while providing a serene base for the night.

Ravenwood offers a perfect overnight setup with its quiet, private location. It’s the perfect balance of peaceful retreat and small-town charm.

What makes Ravenwood special:

  • The gracious hosts provide electric hook ups and are building a beautiful fire pit next to the campsite for guests to enjoy. The hosts were absolutely charming and thoughtful.
  • A short half-mile walk to Rollingbay’s essentials: a cozy coffee shop, a local Italian restaurant, a winery, and a convenient grocery store.
  • A block from a scenic lookout point with panoramic views of Murden Cove, Puget Sound, Elliott Bay, and the glittering Seattle skyline.
  • A peaceful and bike-friendly location just 3.5 miles from the ferry terminal, accessible via quiet backroads.

Ravenwood was booked through Harvest Hosts, a network of unique overnight stays that include farms, wineries, breweries, and attractions for RVers.

We've stayed in Washington apple orchards, wineries in Napa, hot springs, and more. HH and BW has opened up a new world of camping options for our Sprinter.

Ravenwood is a new Boondockers Welcome spot and a hidden gem that will be a popular destination this summer. It's perfect for anyone traveling in a Sprinter van or truck bed camper. We're already booking our next stay!

Explore Poulsbo and Relax at VelvĂŚre Nordic Spa

Poulsbo: Little Norway’s Holiday Magic

After a peaceful night at Ravenwood, head over to Poulsbo, a delightful waterfront town with deep Scandinavian roots. Nicknamed “Little Norway,” Poulsbo shines during the holidays with twinkling lights, festive decor, and cozy shops lining the streets.

Where to Eat: The Brass Kraken Pub

For lunch, stop at The Brass Kraken Pub in downtown Poulsbo. This 21+ spot is a must-visit for both its food and its welcoming vibe. Highlights include:

  • The Clam Chowder: Hands-down the best chowder I’ve ever had. Rich, perfectly seasoned, and loaded with tender clams.
  • The French Dip: Another winner. Juicy, flavorful, and served with a savory au jus for dipping.
  • Pair your meal with one of their excellent Bloody Marys or a pint of local craft beer.

If the weather is nice, grab a seat on the wrap-around deck overlooking Liberty Bay. The views are unbeatable, and the relaxed atmosphere will make you want to linger.

After lunch, explore Poulsbo’s boutique shops and stop by Sluys Bakery for their famous Viking donuts or a warm pastry to-go. Our typical go-to is JJ's Fish House, which is another solid dining option in Poulsbo.

Poulsbo is incredibly campervan-friendly, with nearby parking spots perfect for vans and easy access to the downtown waterfront area. It’s a must-visit stop for van lifers and adventurers.

VelvĂŚre Nordic Spa: The Art of Slow Living

In the afternoon, treat yourself to a rejuvenating experience at Velvære Nordic Spa. True to its name (Norwegian for “the state of well-being”), Velvære invites you to embrace the ancient Nordic tradition of contrast therapy—alternating between hot and cold treatments to reset your body and mind.

Here’s how to make the most of your time:

  1. Hot Therapy: Start with a soak in the luxurious hot tub, where the warmth eases muscle tension, boosts circulation, and melts away stress.

  2. Cold Therapy: Take a plunge into the invigorating cold pool. The initial shock is worth it—cold therapy reduces inflammation, speeds recovery, and leaves you feeling clear-headed and refreshed.

  3. Sauna Session: Complete the cycle in the sauna, where deep heat promotes detoxification, relaxes your muscles, and supports mental calm.

  4. Repeat: Embrace the art of contrast therapy, alternating between hot and cold for maximum benefit.

What makesVelvĂŚre special:

  • Thoughtful amenities: compost toilet, electric hook ups, and the spa!
  • Hosts focused on creating memorable experiences: our hosts considered every detail of the spa experience and our private retreat was perfection.
  • Located in the stunning countryside, the home was a peaceful and quiet respite.

Velvære was also booked through Boondockers Welcome. If you’re exploring in an adventure van, Velvære offers a perfect mid-trip reset, leaving you recharged and ready for the next leg of your journey.

We stayed at the drive-in with a group of Sprinters from the PNW Sprinter Owners group. We loved sharing time with other Sprinter owners, walking from van-to-van seeing everyone's modifications and making new friends by the fire, sipping our favorite beverages. If you own a Sprinter and aren't already in this group, join! They fantastic host events year round. Highly recommend!
