People treat a 2500 and 3500 Sprinter like the same van with a different badge. For suspension, they are opposite failure modes.

Fixing a Sprinter 2500 suspension requires more spring rate, while a 3500 requires compliance. See how dual rear wheels change your upgrade options.

Sprinter 2500

Typically single rear wheel, roughly 8,550 to 9,050 lb GVWR.

Factory rear is a light parabolic pack, often two leaves, built for a delivery shell. A finished camper routinely puts 4,100 to 5,200 lb on that axle.

The pack goes flat and the van lives on bump stops. The failure mode is undersprung: sag, roll, crosswind push, tired struts.

The fix: more, and correctly progressive, rear rate, front support, and dampers that can live with the mass.

Sprinter 3500 / 3500XD

Often dual rear wheel, roughly 9,990 to 11,030 lb GVWR

Factory pack is a commercial object. In a moderate camper it's often oversprung: harsh, skittery on washboard, lots of unsprung rotating mass from dual steel wheels.

The same "add more spring" advice that saves a 2500 can ruin a 3500.

Many 3500s need a progressive pack with a more compliant first rate, plus dampers valved to control a heavy axle, not another helper leaf. Confirm single versus dual rear wheel before ordering anything, mounts and packs aren't interchangeable.

Dual rear wheels change more than weight capacity

They change how the van tracks and which suspension components physically fit.

Dual wheels add stability under load but also change the available shock, mount, and leaf pack options.

If your ticket reads... Then the first move is... Do not...
2500 rear axle 4,100 to 4,800 lb Progressive replacement pack in that window plus stage matched dampers plus front support. Add airbags or a 3500 commercial pack.
2500 rear axle over ~5,000 lb Max capacity multi leaf, auxiliary front support, honest payload diet. Pretend GVWR is a suggestion.
3500 rear axle under ~5,500 lb Progressive pack that isn't commercially stiff, rebound control for dual wheel mass. Pile on helpers or add-a-leafs.

My motorhome suspension was way over loaded and really not safe to drive even with Sumo Springs (expensive mistake). I can tow a vehicle fully loaded if I want and it’s safe now. Nobody wins. Agile is the set and forget rate matched system. Owl is the adjustable mixed use system. King is rebuildable race hardware that needs a thoughtful leaf pairing. Evictus is large piston capability at a large piston price. Choose the job, then the tool.

A working starting point: firmer for interstate and wind, softer for corrugations, middle for town. If you don't want that homework, don't buy that hardware.

Height alone isn't what makes a van feel tippy. Unsupported weight is. A rate matched pack that returns design height usually lowers effective center of gravity under load by killing sag. Spacer only lifts can raise it, which is why we don't sell those as a default.
